If you are considering starting Japanese lessons but feel unsure about your level or whether this class is right for you, Beginner 1 is the perfect place to start.

This course is designed for complete beginners who have never studied Japanese before. Many students begin here with zero experience and gradually build their confidence lesson by lesson.

Beginner 1 Class Overview

In our Beginner 1 class, students start their Japanese learning journey using the textbook Japanese for Busy People 1. Please note that students do not need to purchase textbooks until Beginner 3, so you can join the class with ease and no upfront cost.

At this level, students will also learn hiragana, giving them a strong foundation for reading and writing Japanese. Even if you have never seen Japanese characters before, you will gradually become familiar with them through practice in class.

The course begins with the basics, such as self-introductions, allowing students to immediately practice speaking in real-life situations. From there, learners gradually build essential foundational grammar and vocabulary in a clear and structured way.

In Beginner 1, students will also learn practical language such as kore / sore / are (this / that / that over there), as well as how to talk about days of the week, which are essential for everyday conversation and scheduling.

By the end of the 8 lessons, students will be able to use simple but useful phrases for everyday situations, including basic expressions for shopping, asking questions, and communicating in daily life. You will be surprised at how much you can already say after just a short course.

This class is designed not only to teach Japanese, but also to help students gain confidence in using it step by step, making it an ideal first step into your Japanese learning journey.

Not a Complete Beginner?

If you already have some prior experience learning Japanese, don’t worry. We offer a wide range of levels compared to many other Japanese language schools, so there is a strong chance we can find the perfect class for you.

We will first conduct a placement test to assess your current level, and then recommend the most suitable class to ensure you can continue learning comfortably and effectively.
