It also helps you to make Japanese friends and get along with Japanese community. Japanese schools in Japan do not provide only the Japanese lessons but also a lot of activities such as sightseeing, skiing, cultural experience (tea ceremony, flower arrangement, etc.) through both long and short term courses. So like your image of Japan, study at the desk in classroom for hours is not correct for you Japanese study!

School fees are depending on the duration of your study, what to study in Japan and institution. You need to compare the fees thoroughly while you are looking for a right one for you.

You must note that there would be enrolment fees and facility expense other than tuition fees at the beginning of the first year.

Some schools and even local governments nations have their scholarship system to help students financially with school fee. However, conditions vary according to institutions so not all students are entitled for the scholarship unfortunately. While you will need to be prepared financially, you have a chance to get a scholarship.

Living in Japan

The living cost is not too expensive. You must be surprised the balance of quality and price especially FOOD!! Accommodation fee is not an exception. The average is ¥400,000~ for 1 year term.

Also, you are allowed to work for maximum 28 hours per week if you are a student visa holder. Let’s say your hourly wage is ¥1,000 and you work 28 hours every week. That becomes ¥1,428,000 and enough to cover your accommodation fee. Another beneficial aspect of working in Japanese society is, of course, that you can communicate as much as you want with Japanese people outside of the school. Therefore, it is not just a dream to go to Japan to study!

How to get a job?

As you are currently living in English-speaking country, you must be fluent at English. Even if you are not, you are fluent at other languages. This is your strength to work in Japan. More than 2,300,000 foreign people live in Japan and this means Japanese society is becoming more and more diverse.

Some school provide information to students so that they can easily find and apply for a job while and after studying Japanese. An English teacher is one of the most popular jobs, and a school has a contribution ski resorts that students are able to work. This is also an opportunity to improve your Japanese as the customers are both Japanese and foreigners. Another school contribute with a work-experience amusement park for kids. This park has two divisions that children can experience some work in Japanese or in English. Again, if you are an English speaker, they seek foreign student to work with them!!

Learning Japanese at Japanese educational institution in Japan is beneficial not only for developing your language skill. Many schools organise a seminar for students to find a full-time job after graduating. Let’s say, you are studying at Japanese Beginner level, and you decided to go to Japan to study Japanese for 2 years. After arriving Japan, the school told you to start with Upper-Beginner class. As you found an ad a company is looking for someone who is an English speaker to assist them on communication with foreign people, you started working with them and tried to communicate in Japanese when English is not necessary. You steadily improve your Japanese and one year later, you are about to join in Advanced class. At the same time, your school inform you that some organisations to come to school to hold a seminar for recruiting. Since attending to that seminar, one of the companies is attractive for you but they require you to pass at least JLPT N2. Then School counsellor advised you to take JLPT preparation course as elective class so that you can prepare for JLPT. You finally passed JLPT N2 because you were working hard. They look after you in whole process!
