How Learning Japanese Added More Meaning to Their Japan Trip ✈

Learning Japanese is not only about studying grammar and vocabulary in a classroom.

For many learners, the most exciting moment comes when they can finally use what they have learned in real-life situations — especially while travelling in Japan.

Today, we are sharing a student’s travel story from Hokkaido, one of Japan’s most beautiful destinations.

Exploring Hokkaido During the Green Season 🌿

Hokkaido is famous for its incredible nature, delicious food, and unique culture.

While many travellers visit Hokkaido during winter to experience snow festivals and winter landscapes, visiting during spring offers a completely different atmosphere.

One of our BBIC students recently visited Hokkaido during the beginning of the green season and shared their experience with us.

A Student’s Hokkaido Travel Experience💓

In May, we visited Hokkaido during the start of green season (aka, ‘spring’ or ‘haru’ 春). We’ve previously visited Hokkaido in winter, so it was wonderful to see a different side of the island.

Some highlights of our trip included visiting the Shakotan Peninsula, Daisetsuzan National Park, standing at the northernmost point in Japan in Wakkanai, hiking in the UNESCO World Heritage listed Shiretoko Peninsula and seeing the Shiretoko Five Lakes (知床五湖, Shiretoko Goko), and of course the amazing people and food!
