Common Concerns When Starting Japanese

By BBICollege, Posted on 10/04/2026

Feeling Nervous About Learning Japanese? You’re Not Alone!

Starting a new language can feel exciting—but also a little overwhelming.
If you are thinking about learning Japanese, it’s completely normal to have some concerns.

At BBIC, many of our students felt the same way before joining.
Here are some of the most common worries we hear—and why you don’t need to worry.

😟 “Japanese looks really difficult…”

Japanese may look complicated at first, especially with hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
However, everyone starts from the basics.

In our Beginner 1 class at BBIC, we begin with simple and practical content, including hiragana and basic conversation.
You will learn step by step in a supportive environment, so there is no need to feel overwhelmed.

The Beginner 1 class is perfect for those who have never studied Japanese before, as well as those who have some prior experience but would like to review and rebuild their foundation from the basics.

😟 “I’m not sure if I can remember hiragana”

This is one of the most common concerns—and completely understandable.

The good news is that hiragana can be learned gradually with the right approach.
In our classes, we introduce it in a structured and manageable way, so you can build your confidence as you go.

😟 “I’m worried about pronunciation”

Many students feel nervous about speaking a new language, especially in front of others.

At BBIC, our small class sizes (3–14 students) create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
You will have plenty of opportunities to practice, and making mistakes is always part of the learning process.

😟 “What if I fall behind?”

Everyone learns at a different pace, and it’s okay to take your time.

Our teachers are here to support you, and we aim to create a comfortable learning environment where you can ask questions and learn at your own speed.

If you miss a class, the teacher will send you the lesson materials by email so you can study on your own.
If needed, you can also take a catch-up lesson at $60 per hour.
Some students do need to skip classes due to work commitments or take multiple days off for holidays,
but they are all able to continue the course successfully.

🌿 You Don’t Have to Be Perfect

Learning Japanese is not about being perfect from the beginning.
It’s about taking small steps and building your confidence along the way.

At BBIC, we are here to support you from your very first step.
