It’s March already?!

もう 3がつ ですね。

One more month to go for Sakura season. But do not be upset, March tourist.

Ume うめ is season now!!

This is Ume flower.

Looks like Sakura?

For us, very different.

We have been loving Ume as well as Sakura for more than 1500 years.

Ume is the icon of spring like Sakura.

When Ume starts blooming first around the middle of February, we feel winter is getting over and spring is nearly there. Sakura blooms after Ume and we feel it is completely spring when we see.

It is also symbol of intelligence as a genius man, Michizane Sugawara (845-903),  loved Ume so much. When you go to a shrine, check the shrine’s symbol. If Ume is there, that means they have a god of intelligence.

By the way, Ume うめ is known as plum, you might have tried Ume-boshi うめぼし pickled plum.

Yes, the sour one!!!!!!

One of our teacher, Sae sensei is from Wakayama, where is famous for Ume-boshi.

As Ume in Wakayama has great quality, some of them are ¥500(=$5 aprox.) per piece.
